The Basics Of The Alkaline Diet

July 29, 2017 by Mike Johnson Leave a Comment

The alkaline diet is based on the idea that your body pH plays a huge role in your health. When your pH is acidic, your body enzymes do not work like they should which can have an effect on the way that your cells function, leading to diseases like cancer. When your pH is more alkaline, you are going to be healthier, have more energy, and reduce your risk of cancer.

Alkaline foods above the wooden backgroundWhen you go on the alkaline plan, 70 percent of the food that you eat is going to be food that increases the alkaline levels in your blood. Most vegetables are alkaline. Leafy greens are especially good, and wheat grass and sprouts should be a daily part of your diet.

Beets and radishes are alkaline-forming, and you can also eat fruits like watermelon, lemon, and cherries. Healthy fats keep you feeling full when you are on the alkaline diet. Olive oil, sesame oil, and flaxseed oil will support alkaline formation and they are also good for your cardiovascular health and help to reduce inflammation. Healthy fats are also found in alkaline nuts like pine nuts and almonds.

Lentils are an alkaline food and they also contain fiber and protein. Soybeans and lima beans are also alkaline, as is tofu. Eating tofu will help ensure that you eat enough protein as well. When you are on the alkaline plan, it is important that you drink enough water. Green tea is alkaline and it is full of antioxidants, so make sure to drink green tea as well.

Keeping away from acidic food is crucial if you want to increase your alkaline pH. Avoid eating refined grains like white bread. Always go with the whole grain option. White bread and tortillas are very acidic. Avoid tangerines, pineapple, and raspberries because they are also very acidic.

You will need to moderate your intake of meat. Beef, pork, and tuna are highly acidic. Chicken and fish are less acidic. Milk is also very acidic. While you can still eat these foods when you are on the alkaline plan, you will want to limit them.

Avoid using butter and margarine and don't eat any processed foods. Simple meals using simple ingredients that you prepare at home are always going to be the better choice. A tofu and vegetable scramble is easy to prepare and packed with protein and nutrients. It is also alkaline-forming.

Leafy green salads with salmon or chicken will fill you up and give you the protein you need to stay healthy and have energy. Whole grain pasta with chicken makes a tasty meal and vegetable soup is always a good choice. Eating a ripe banana or handful of almonds is going to make a good snack.

The alkaline diet can lower your risk of heart disease and help you lose weight. You are also going to lower your risk of cancer. The diet can also help you manage chronic diseases. Keep a list of foods that you can eat so you don't have to think too much about your food choices.
